The Roamin' Roman

Benvenuto! You have happened upon the blog of a wandering Catholic American college student studying for a year in Rome, the Eternal City. You will find here my pontifications, ruminations, reflections, images, and ponderings on my life in Rome. Ciao!

Sunday, April 9

The Passion narrative was beautifully chanted, not only by individual deacons, but by the choir for the "crowd" parts. The deacon that had the lines of Jesus had a most wonderful voice! Whoever he is, when he is a priest I would love to participate in a Mass sung by him. Most of the Mass was in Italian (surprising for me), but the responses were frequently in Latin (Sanctus, Agnus Dei, etc). Also, the introits/antiphons and psalm seemed to be more "modern" settings, they were quite beautiful and had splendid instrumental accompaniment (we're talking violins, harps, and flutes, orchestral instruments - not guitars and such.). The harp accompaniment to the psalm was incredible!
