The Roamin' Roman

Benvenuto! You have happened upon the blog of a wandering Catholic American college student studying for a year in Rome, the Eternal City. You will find here my pontifications, ruminations, reflections, images, and ponderings on my life in Rome. Ciao!

Monday, April 3

On Friday morning, we went on a class visit to the Aventine hill, to see the big doors of Santa Sabina (again, for me, but hey, it's a cool place... and I knew this was a great chance to get up into the Coolest Dominican Store Ever.). Anyway - this photo is from the walk on the way to the Aventine, as we passed the old Jewish "Ghetto" area (4 blocks that held quite a few thousand Jews at one time in history). Apparently this little church was part of the Church's old plan for converting the Jews - make them leave the Ghetto and come to Mass here to listen to the conversion spiel once or twice a year (didn't sound like this tactic worked all that well though).
