I don't remember the entire story behind this, but this is an often-overlooked fresco fragment (I had never noticed it before myself) located just inside the basilica in the right-hand nave, done by the famous Giotto. It is a depiction of Pope Bonifice VIII proclaiming the very first Jubilee Year in 1300.
