The Roamin' Roman

Benvenuto! You have happened upon the blog of a wandering Catholic American college student studying for a year in Rome, the Eternal City. You will find here my pontifications, ruminations, reflections, images, and ponderings on my life in Rome. Ciao!

Wednesday, April 26

From the 10:00 am Latin High Mass on the 2nd Sunday of Easter. St. Mary Major has one of the most beautiful Sunday liturgies in Rome, it is usually my first choice each week... if you are here over a Sunday, the Vatican sounds tempting, but it's not worth it -- too many tourists who don't understand what's going on and are very distracting. The Mass at St. Mary Major is just as beautiful, with fewer tourists and more congregational reverence, a fine lay choir, and when it finishes you still have time to hop onto the Metro and make it to St. Peter's Square to pray the Angelus with the Pope. Can't beat it!

This place seems nice, but would not a Liturgy celebrated according to the ancient and venerable Roman Rite, as faithfully preserved in the Missal of St. Pius V be more conducive to an actual participation in Sacred Liturgy? I understand there are several such Masses available in Rome. P.S. Eat at Pizza Taglio.
