The Roamin' Roman

Benvenuto! You have happened upon the blog of a wandering Catholic American college student studying for a year in Rome, the Eternal City. You will find here my pontifications, ruminations, reflections, images, and ponderings on my life in Rome. Ciao!

Happy Feast of St. Joseph!

Ok, so I guess the 3rd Sunday in Lent seems to have trumped the solemnity of St. Joseph, transferred to tomorrow (at least here in Rome - elsewhere?) - but still, happy feast day to all fathers and workers. Remember, as the Holy Father said today (on his patronal feast!), the model of St. Joseph gives "to all of us a strong invitation to undertake with faithfulness, simplicity and modesty the tasks which Providence assigned to us."

For me here in Rome, this Sunday comes after a very busy week (again) - hiking daily to the Station Churches early in the morning, eating good Italian food with even better people, seeing Dr. Scott Hahn at a memorable TOT Roma, spending both the "vigil" of St. Paddy's Day and the night of the feastday with the Irish, and of course, going to class (it may be spring break back in the States, but here the reprive is not yet in sight!). To top it all off, yesterday Mariana and I went on a day trip up to Orvieto, famed for the Eucharistic Miracle of Bolsena that is kept in its Duomo. Photos are forthcoming, as usual.

Looking ahead to next week - the head of the list is, what else, the Pope's First Consistory, to be held in the context of a Liturgy of the Word service (NOT a Mass) this upcoming Friday. Other things going on this week include a visit by Archbishop Dolan (he is the uncle of one of the students here!) for our Wednesday evening household Mass and dinner and also our Bernardi house retreat, to be held this next weekend, once again at the Palazzola (the English College's retreat house near Castel Gandolfo).

We'll get back home later on Sunday, so I will surely try to blog again then - until then, God be with you, and may St. Joseph ora pro nobis!
