On Sunday afternoon, it was back to the Vatican again - this time with Fr. Carola, formally beginning another semester of chaplain at Bernardi by taking us on our own "ad limina" pilgrimage. The journey on foot to the Vatican led us through the columnade (with a pause to check out the "sweet spots", where you can stand and see the columnade all lined up -- one day I will have to take a picture for you I guess, it is cool) and then past the tomb of John Paul II and St. Peter, then up to the main church to read from the Gospel and offer prayers for our new semester. In this photo, we are in front of the Holy Doors (only opened in Jubilee years) - each pope that opens a Holy Year places his crest on the door; JP II was, of course, the last pope to do so, as Fr. Carola points out here.
