The Roamin' Roman

Benvenuto! You have happened upon the blog of a wandering Catholic American college student studying for a year in Rome, the Eternal City. You will find here my pontifications, ruminations, reflections, images, and ponderings on my life in Rome. Ciao!

Ok, so we wondered what this was caged up on the wall... after looking at the little card beneath it, it seems that St. Bartholomew was killed in an Arabic country, and the Arabs gave the body to the Pope *in* this bowl... Now, I know from the statue of St. Bartholomew that's in the Basilica of St. John Lateran that the saint was skinned (he's holding his skin there)... I wonder what the timeframe was between the saint's death and the Arabs bringing him to the Catholics in a bowl?? Was it old dried out bones, or... *shudder*...
