Later on Saturday, I went with a few friends up to the Capitoline hill (between the Roman Forum and Piazza Veneiza basically) to see about some free museum entrance that they had heard about. Well, when we got there we were told that the main museum wasn't free, but that there was a free admission that day to the old Senaturio building (the current Rome City Hall basically) - so we thought, hey, why not. It was kind of a neat building, lots of interesting Italian/Roman history, including a lovely plaque commemorating a visit by John Paul II. This is a view from one of the windows, overlooking the northwestern side of the Piazza Venezia. And hey, in typical Italian fashion, when we finished with the tour we discovered that they were going to let us into the Capitoline museum for free after all (it ends right at the back entrance)!
