After lunch, we went over to the Tiburtina island (the one big island in the Tiber) where the basilica of St. Bartholomew is located. It was closed when we first got there, so we went off and got some more gelato and then came back :) The church itself is quite nice inside, the ceiling is marvelous in particular, and the tomb of St. Bartholomew the apostle is definitely worth seeing. Let's see, that means that there are either 7 or 8 apostles here in Rome, if you count Paul... St. Peter, of course, as well as Sts. Simon and Jude, in the Vatican Basilica of St. Peter. St. Paul in his basilica outside the city walls. Sts. Philip and James the Younger in the Basilica of the Holy Apostles, near Piazza Venezia. Either St. Matthew or St. Matthais (there is confusion here...) is under the altar in the Basilica of St. Mary Major. And then of course there is St. Bartholomew here on the island. Neat!
